Well. I can't say I don't understand giving in to temptation.

Nothing more than any devoted wife would have done.

( but also far less considering they'd never actually consummated that marriage. whispered in his ear, given him a little fun )

It was-- very simple.

[Which he honestly finds harder to believe than easier to believe, but most of what Gabriel said hadn't made sense.]

( though as it went on gabriel had definitely been the one to want it. lilith really hadn't. not that she wants to get into the finer details of her own sex life )

But he found pleasure in such a new experience.

( that comment earns him a glare because lilith has many of her own issues and boundaries regarding consent. very strong boundaries )

Somehow he'd see yours coming. Men often are in the habit of underestimating a woman.

Was there any particular reason for your question? Looking to find something to hold over him?

[It would be hard for him to have dated two women who were underestimated by their own husbands and not agree that she has a point.]

He brought it up, and you know what it's like trying to get a straight answer out of him. Besides, I'm more inclined to believe you.

( now that was curious, the fact that he'd willingly talk about her and what they'd done )

And just what did he tell you?

He wanted to know if he had fallen because he felt affection for a demon. Who betrayed him.

And then he mentioned pleasures of the flesh and married.

[And just kept talking.]

He wasn't inaccurate in that.

( shockingly )

Though as much as-- teasing him was enjoyable I'd rather not replay the finer details.

The betrayal involved some sort of resistance?

[They can talk about something else then.]

He was working for the government. I was-- allied with those against it. Using his information to aide their movements, to foil his intentions and help save those who would be hurt.

So the government was hurting people somehow, and he was part of it? And you were trying to make sure that didn't happen.

Kind of the opposite of what would be expected of an angel and a demon.

[To most people, anyway. He knows better.]

I told him he shouldn't have trusted a demon.

Perhaps it's the angel that shouldn't be trusted.

( she'd actually helped those in need. those with powers anyway and only really because the resistance slightly worked with her own agenda. it wasn't exactly out of the goodness of her heart )

I didn't say he should be.

[He knows better than that, too.]

I just meant that angels should think twice before trusting demons.

Most tend not to regardless.

I can't argue with that.

[It had been a spectacularly bad decision on Amenadiel's part to trust Maze, but Lucifer had been counting on him doing it anyway.]

Maybe he'll know better next time.

He's not intelligent for an angel.

He is not.

Maybe that's why it's so hard for him to understand how free will works.

Is that intelligence or your father's doing? Few angels ever do more than blindly follow his word.

( lucifer her main exception, though aziraphale had had some different opinion, though not entirely )

That is true.

I never had trouble with doing otherwise. Sometimes I wonder if that's how it was supposed to be.
