Thank you for answering so quicklyβ A friend of mine is... suffering. Someone called "The Archivist" has done something to him I don't know what exactly, but it's causing him painful nightmares. He's so tired from not sleeping that it's been wearing on him and I'm worried... Do you know anything that could help stop them? This is far beyond my knowledge of anything like this Especially since it's unlike most magics in our world And Emet-Selch himself cannot fight it, despite being an ancient himself.
[ She's not one to beat around the bush, Lilith's getting everything she can give her. ]
You, too?? Whoever this shite is, he seems to enjoy tormenting powerful ancients from the looks of it! I put Emet-Selch to sleep with a spell to help his body it shouldn't have worked, but that's how vulnerable he was. I wanted to know how long it would take to have a nightmare kick in.
[ She feels bad for it, and that she'll have angered him again, but she had to for his own sake. ]
... I don't think he'll be too happy when he wakes But if you could tell me, I could try and talk to him before having you come by in person He's suffered enough. It's not fair for him to suffer more. What is this that he's done? Is it a curse?
There's an entity. The closest term I have is that it possesses the Archivist. It's this entity that feeds on the statements given to him, causing the nightmares. I'd like to enter his dreams, see if I can ease his troubles.
( and perhaps gain information on how it latches on/causes the nightmares. she tried going into the archivist's dreams but that has been a bad choice. someone else's-- she'll see. she'll risk her own nightmares )
...you'd do that? Are you sure? Would you need anything to help? If I can convince Emmy to allow you...
[ Gosh is she a goddess or what? If she can actually go into someone's nightmares... ]
I don't want to have you endangered, either. So please, let me help prepare with whatever you need! I'll talk to him if he's amenable to it Though hearing that it's an entity and not a curse... Do you know if it does any kind of lasting damage if confronted?
( she may risk her own nightmares if she encounters the entity again but it was a choice that she made. as much as she didn't enjoy what feeling it gave her it was endurable )
Though I would avoid the Archivist. Don't attempt to engage the Entity.
I won't. Though I haven't experienced any personal horrors to myself. And it sounds like this entity uses those more...
[ That's mostly true, the only true horrors she's experienced have been at the hands of a madman obsessed with her here in Duplicity, but she was able to fight him. ]
I've just seen horrors that have happened to others... Emmy said the same thing you did. But, Lilith... What if this entity hurts you? I wouldn't know how to help you if it did.
( whether that's because she's been hurt enough in the past that she's unbreakable or because she's already encountered it she won't elaborate on. but she's more prepared for what it could do )
I know my nightmares. I'm not afraid of them.
( she has bigger fears. they may unsettle her, have trapped her in the past but she's wiser now )
[ This is why she admires herβ she can at least believe that maybe, someone with knowledge as ancient as hers would possibly know best.
But she's still as she isβ Lilith has no reason to do this just for her, for Emet-Selch, yet she's offering selflessly.
If Megumi wasn't already charmed by her before, she is now, twice over. ]
... Then, promise me if it does become a problem You won't hide it from me! We'll figure out a way to fight it together. And maybe Emet-Selch will be able to, too Once he's better. ... if we can do this before Starlightβ Er. What do you call the Winter celebrations in your world?
( it takes her a moment, reading and rereading the message, reminding herself that people do care before she responds. she'd still likely hide it but-- )
Solstice? Ah... I'll talk to him when he wakes. I don't want him to have to suffer a beautiful time of giving in that state. Or you, for that matter, Goddess!
[ Can she hear that pout in text? ]
... anyroad, all we can do is wait Until we have his consent He's really stubborn, but I suppose it's because he's so ancient. Tell me about your solstice! What do you do to celebrate it?
You could... but I really want to make sure he won't be angry first. Which I'm sure he will be when he awakens.
He's also not easy to trust others, so... he might not want someone entering his dreams. But I'll convince him! And I want to hear all about your solstice. ... I think I can hear himβ Shite. Message you back, Lilith.
[ Give her a bit. It might be an hour or so when she returns. ]
I'm back... I'm sorry. He's up. He was pretty unsettled... Before I continue, what was the other method you were offering?
I'd rather just attempt to end this entirely. Especially if that entity is feeding off of his statements. Else I could have given him a dreamless sleep with my potions.
Do you suppose you could come by then? Here...
[ Cue her sending a location- the building she stays in and to the rooftop garden. ]
Say, in half a bell? If nothing else, he might feel better talking to you. Like I said, he doesn't trust easily. He assumed you'd ask for something in repayment.
Thank you. I'll ask him to stay, then. I just hope you don't have to suffer needlessly too. I'd an idea as well, but it's risky... I don't want to try it unless it's a last resort though.
Aye... Though I may as well tell you. It's a potion that brings the mind and body into a state that seems like death. It doesn't kill you, but it does shut the body down enough to make it seem so ... the only risk is that the dosage needs to be crafted to the person it's being given to. So they can wake up from it. Any more can shut the mind down for an uncertain amount of time. Any less will make the body immobile, but keep the mind active. We wouldn't want either of those happening.
[ She has no reason to disbelieve her, but Megumi's a stupid normie where it comes to all this fantastic stuff. ]
I hope you won't fail... But I have everything I need to make this potion. I just assume that if the entity thinks Emet-Selch's mind is dead... It'll unlatch itself. Maybe you could help make it? It'd be good to have another set of eyes on it.
[ She usually YOLO's it, but the opinion counts. ]
A spray sedative! I was trying both out and in lower dosage, the deadly nightshade actually worked better, and the lavender needed more sprigs to be effective.
Of course, the former needs a complete amount before it becomes poisonous, but...

I've encountered his brand of nightmares before.
There is something I could do though it would be easier in person.
( and if not-- she has one other alternative. and a conversation to have )

If mine fails. I know the Entity.( she doesn't and she knows it but she's got a feeling of it ) There are other methods to block it.
( she has resisted giving a statement before.
she's also never before offered killing someone to resurrect them because no one needs that. so this potion is the best of that offer )
